Where are your rentals located? Both rentals are in the condominium complex Hale Moi, which is in the resort community of Princeville, on Kauai's North Shore. There is a Google Map on the bottom right of our
home page, marking our exact location.
From these units it takes approximatley 10 minutes to walk to St Regis Princeville Resort, which has 2 great restaurants, amazing views, 5 star spa and public access to the beach. Also with in walking distance is Safron Restaurant at the condo complex, Pali Ke Kua. For a small secluded beach, walk about 10 minutes, diagonally across the street and d0wn a paved path to Hide-aways beach, great for snorkeling in calm sea and surfing when the surf is small to medium. (not for beginners) A little bit longer of a walk (about 30 minutes) down the road and down a steeper dirt path will get you to Queen Emma's Bath, beautiful lava rock natural pool which is great for swimming in calm seas only.
Recently our Princeville Shopping Center (5 minutes by car) has undergone a complete renovation with more stores and restaurants, even a food court with Mexican, Thai and a coffee shop! Jump in the car, 10 minutes to Hanalei town and Hanalei bay, 20 minutes to wild and beautiful Haena beaches , caves and hiking, or 10 minutes in the other direction to Anini Beach, Rock quary, Secret's beach and Kilauea town with a few very cute stores. The location of these units is hard to beat.
How many units are in the complex of Hale Moi?There are a total of 40 units, arranged in a row of duplex style buildings, with
a unit above and a unit below, each with a half flight of stairs. Our unit #201
is an end unit on the top floor which allows for beautiful views of the Hanalei
Mountains and a peaceful environment without anyone living above you.
Is there a BBQ?Yes, there is a communal outside charcoal BBQ for your use. It is located in the center of the complex near a picnic table.
Each guest must provide their own charcoal.
Is there a swimming pool?There is not a swimming pool at Hale Moi. There are a few beaches, Hideaways and the public access beach at The St. Regis Princeville Resort , and Queen's bath with in walking distance.
Is there air conditioning in the unit?Like 98% of the home and condos on Kauai, our unit does not have AC. The nice average temperature of 78 and the cooling trade-winds keep most days very pleasant. There are high powered ceiling fans in both units.
Are there beaches within walking distance?There are a couple of beaches, Hideaways and the St. Regis Princeville Resot's, a 10-15 minutes walk from Hale Moi. Also Queen's bath is approx. 30 minutes walk. Jump in the car and there are Hanalei, Haena, and Anini beaches a short drive.
Is there a grocery store close by?Yes, there is the Princeville Shopping Center, 5 minutes by car. The center has a large grocery store, and there is also a post office, dry cleaners, a great toy store, banks, a hardware store and a few shops and a handful of restaurants.
Do we need a rental car?A rental car is highly recommended. The Kauai bus is not that regular and the Princeville bus stop is a 40 minute walk from Hale Moi. Taxis are available but expensive, about $80 from the airport.
Can we request a late check out?Please contact me while on island to see if a late check out will be available. It will depend on the check in date of the next guest and the schedule of the cleaning service. We will try to accommodate you whenever possible.
What is the time difference in Hawaii?Hawaii is 6 hours behind the East Coast and 3 Hours behind the West Coast, during day lights savings. Since Hawaii never changes the clocks the time change is 5 hours and 2 hours during the winter months.
Do the units have access to laundry facilities?THE ALOHA LOFT has it's own washer and dryer in the unit. THE ORCHID ROOM does not have access to a washer or dryer. The closest laundry mat is in Kappa'a town behind the Shell station.
What size are your rentals?THE ORCHID ROOM is approximately 500 sq feet, encompassing the full bathroom, living area, casual kitchenette, and King Bed area. THE ALOHA LOFT is approximately 1000 sq feet, including the extra loft space with queen bed, full kitchen, bathroom, living area, and King Bed area.
What is the layout of your rentals?Both THE ORCHID ROOM and THE ALOHA LOFT are in Hale Moi UNIT 201, which is located on
the top floor up a small flight of stairs. The exterior door opens up to a 50 sq foot common entrance foyer. On the left hand side is a keyed door with the letter A, this is THE ALOHA LOFT. On the other side is another keyed door, marked with the letter B, and this is THE ORCHID ROOM.
The main exterior door remains unlocked at all times while the unit doors each have their own keys.
What is the climate on Kauai?The beautiful, tropical climate of Kauai is fresh with ocean breezes with an average year-round temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit, plus or minus eight degrees. Tropical rain showers do occur, making it a great place to see rainbows and creating a green lush landscape, giving our island the name “The Garden Island”.
Do you offer discounts?Our rates are extremely competitive. We do offer 10% discounts on reservations for 7 nights or greater and 20% on stays 28 days or longer. Sometimes if we have openings in the next 30 days we offer additional LAST MINUTE DISCOUNTS.
How far is Hale Moi from the airport?It takes about 45 minutes by car to get to Hale Moi from the airport in Lihue.
Your website says 'Family owned and operated'. Do you live on the island?Yes, we live here in Princeville, in a home about 5 minutes from our vacation rentals, so we are available as needed. I have lived here for over 13 years. We have a daughter, Ela who is 5, and a son, Luka who is 2 year old. Before moving to our current house, we lived in Hale Moi 201, while my husband, Kiko fully renovated it with hardwood floors, granite counters, new fixtures, new appliances, fresh paint, and even put together a staircase from Italy for the loft in THE ALOHA LOFT.
